Swansea University is ambitious for its students, staff, and for the institution as a whole. Our University community thrives on exploration and discovery and offers the right balance of excellent teaching and research, matched by an enviable quality of life. We are comfortably one of the top 30 research intensive universities in the UK in the recent government-sponsored review of the quality of research in every university (The Research Excellence Framework – REF2014). Ninety per cent of Swansea’s research was judged to be internationally excellent in its impact and a third of our research is now classed as world-leading. This means that our students are taught by, and work alongside, some of the best academic staff in the country and even the world. We aim to deliver an outstanding student experience that provides a lifetime of fantastic memories, matched by courses which equip you with high-level skills and boost your employability.

Swansea University is ranked 16th in the UK for graduate employment, further proof that our students are benefitting from our initiatives to help them become global graduates, sought-after in the highly competitive graduate marketplace.  As employers tell us that global knowledge and awareness is more important than degree classification in their recruitment processes, our commitment to offer every student the chance to spend time overseas during their studies is more important than ever, and we are delighted that we have been able to achieve an 86% increase in outbound student mobility in the last five years.

Campus life:

Swansea University has two campuses, both of which overlook the sandy beach of Swansea Bay. Singleton Park Campus is located to the west of the city centre and is home to our Colleges of Arts and Humanities, Human and Health Sciences, Law, Science, and the Swansea University Medical School. The Students’ Union is also based here and there are a range of shops, cafes, bars, and a theatre/cinema. The Campus is surrounded by parkland, just 5 minutes from the beach, and is only a short walk away from numerous bars and restaurants. Our brand new £450 million Bay Campus opened in September 2015 and is located to the east of the city centre. There is a supermarket, sports hall and gym, as well as cafes and a bar.

Sports facilities:

Swansea University’s first-class sports facilities include: the Wales National Pool, three sports halls, two astro pitches, an indoor and outdoor running track, fitness and power gyms, spin studios and physiotherapy facilities. The 360 Beach and Watersports Centre, located on Swansea Bay, offers activities such as beach volleyball, kayaking and kite surfing. Swansea also has an outstanding natural environment for sports lovers – enjoy sailing in Swansea Bay, rowing on the River Tawe, surfing at a Gower beach or mountain biking across Swansea’s rugged hills.

Swansea University has a strong campus-based student community. From visual arts topoker; real ale to gospel, the Students’ Union most likely has the perfect society for you -and if it doesn’t, the Union makes it easy for you to start your own! Joining a club or society is a great way to meet like-minded people and make new friends. It can also give you valuable transferable skills for gaining future employment -especially if you take a lead role in the running of the group.

Housing services:

We offer multiple accommodation options for postgraduate students. There are designated postgraduate rooms in several of our halls of residence, both on and off campus. We also have a residence in the popular Uplands area of the city that is just for postgraduate and international students. The University’s own lettings agency can help you find good quality accommodation in the city, including University-managed properties with student-friendly contracts. We even run a house-hunting event for postgraduate students every August to help you find the perfect housemates!
